Bedroom rugs – when the first step of the day counts
Your bedroom is your own personal retreat. It's where you switch off, unwind and leave the day behind. The first thing you feel when you get up in the morning is the floor beneath your feet – and that's where a good rug makes all the difference. At Connox, you'll find designer bedroom rugs that do more than simply fill space. Our bedroom rugs give the room structure, warmth and character, and they are carefully selected so that aesthetics, comfort and quality go hand in hand.
Placing a rug in the bedroom: where it works best
The classic solution is a rug under the bedthat extends evenly on both sides and at the foot of the bed. A large bedroom rug brings the sleeping area together, gives the room a clear focal point and means your first steps in the morning are soft. If you want to cover less floor space, choose two narrow runners on either side of the bed. This is more subtle but just as effective. Placing a rug in front of the bed is another option: more compact, more targeted and ideal for smaller bedrooms.
Size, pile and material – what matters
A rug by the bed should be generously sized. Rugs that are too small look lost and visually break up the room. As a rule of thumb, the rug should extend at least 50 to 60 cm on each side of the bed. For a standard double bed, this usually means a rug of 200 × 300 cm or more – large enough to frame the sleeping area without overwhelming the room.
When it comes to pile, it's down to personal preference. Shaggy rugs are cosy and fluffy and feel especially pleasant under bare feet. They also create a sense of warmth and comfort in the bedroom. Low-pile rugs, on the other hand, are easier to care for, lie flatter and often look more elegant. Both have their place in the bedroom, depending on how you want the room to feel.
The material affects not only comfort but also the indoor climate. Natural fibres such as wool regulate humidity and help keep the temperature pleasant. High-quality synthetic pile can be just as soft and durable and is often easier to care for. What matters most is the workmanship: a good rug lies flat, gives slightly underfoot and keeps its shape even after months of use.
Colours and shapes: a style that suits your bedroom
Bedroom rugs in light colours such as cream, sand, soft grey or muted white make the room look larger and calmer and create an inviting, feel-good atmosphere. If you want to give the room more depth and cosiness, choose warm earth tones or rich, calm colours such as terracotta, sage green or dark blue. Patterns can do more than decorate: a subtle geometric pattern gives the room rhythm, while an organic pattern adds lightness without disturbing the calm a bedroom needs. As for shapes, rectangular rugs add structure, while round rugs soften the severity of straight lines. This looks especially good combined with clean, modern bedroom furniture. To make your room really cosy, choose bedroom lighting that suits your rug. The finishing touch is stylish bedroom decorthat either emphasises the style of the room or deliberately contrasts with it through colours and shapes.
