Hee Welling

Scandinavian furniture with the potential to become design classics

With his design for the Hee chair, Hee Welling quickly secured a firm place in Scandinavian design history. His furniture designs reveal his focus on function and modernity. They are defined by soft, organic lines – unfussy shapes that keep the focus on the essentials. Every product he designs carries a connection to the Scandinavian design tradition.

Hee Welling was born in Copenhagen in Denmark in 1974 and attended various art and design schools in Denmark in the 1990s. After gaining his first experience as a furniture designer in Asia (Vietnam) and Scandinavia, he opened Hee Welling Studio in his home city in 2003 and completed his furniture design studies at the Danish Design School there. He has taught at the renowned school himself since 2004.

A firm member of the HAY designer family

Hee Welling has made a name for himself in the design industry in recent years, and not only through his teaching. With his studio and in collaboration with renowned design companies such as HAY, he has created innovative furniture that became known worldwide within a few years. This includes not only the Hee chair but also About A Chair and its many variants. His furniture has found its way into the Oslo Opera House, the Australian Parliament, Amazon's headquarters and the Danish Parliament, among other places.

Founder Rolf Hay is committed to a long-term partnership with this promising design talent. In his view, Welling has already secured his place in the history of modern, function-led Scandinavian furniture design with the Hee chair he designed for HAY. In 2015, Hee Welling earned a place on Architonic magazine's list of the top 200 designers.
