A design icon by Verner Panton
The Panton Chair is a design icon of the last century. It is the most consistent expression of a design approach that aims to realise an object in a single material and a single flowing form.
Danish designer Verner Panton spent many years working on the idea of a plastic chair made in one piece. The first prototypes were created together with Vitra in the 1960s, and series production of the Panton Chair began in 1967. Since its launch, the Panton Chair has gone through several production phases as a result of technical advances in plastics processing.
In the late 1990s, the last version of the chair authorised by Verner Panton was developed in collaboration with him. With this model, one of his key goals was achieved for the first time: the plastic chair as an affordable industrial product.
