From Mirror to Design Brand: The Story of Gustaf Westman
Gustaf Westman was born in 1994 in Borås, Sweden, and studied architecture at Chalmers University of Technology in Gothenburg. In 2020 he founded his own design studio in Stockholm. His breakthrough came with a mirror whose frame is shaped like a wave. Originally created for a Swedish fashion company, it quickly spread online and is now known as the Curvy Mirror.
Few elements, one clear idea
Westman describes his work as easy to understand: each object is built from a few elements and rests on a single idea. His forms are rounded, exaggerated and graphically clear. He draws inspiration from the Memphis Group of the 1980s, which rebelled against the strictness of modernism. Playful as the designs are, they follow classic design principles and careful craftsmanship.
From mirror to complete interior
The first mirror grew into a range of furniture, lighting, ceramics and glassware. Many pieces are made to order, some individually. His ceramics, cups, jugs and plates in bold colours with soft edges, bring his visual language into everyday life.
Design with a wink
