A wooden bowl: useful for everyday life and always decorative

Scandinavian and Italian designers use the character and colour of wood to create distinctive designs. At Connox, you can find a refined wooden decorative bowl as well as an unusual fruit bowl.

Choosing a wooden bowl: what to consider

1. How to use it
2. Size & material
3. Style & design
4. Decoration
5. Leading brands
6. Care
7. Price

1. Wooden bowls for everyday use and decoration

A wooden bowl can store jewellery and accessories, hold keys or letters, and keep all kinds of small household items together. Wooden bowls are also a classic choice for serving nuts, bread and sweets, or for displaying fruit.

The Frame bowl by Skagerak combines a simple design with practical function. With a diameter of 26 cm, it can hold fruit and vegetables and makes an attractive feature on the table. Its form, inspired by the wooden ribs of a ship's hull, also feels light and open.

2. Wooden bowls: different sizes and types of wood

Each type of wood has its own colour and grain, brought out by high-quality craftsmanship. Suitable woods include birch, beech, ash and oak. They can be left untreated or finished with oils, waxes, soap or lacquer made from environmentally friendly materials. As wood is a natural material, its colour may change slightly over time.

The Kontra fruit and salad bowl by Stelton makes an eye-catching feature on the table. With a diameter of 29 cm, this easy-care wooden bowl is large enough for serving salad and fruit. The mix of cool stainless steel and warm bamboo also makes this a decorative piece in its own right.

3. What style do wooden bowls suit?

While rustic or folk-inspired styles were once popular, contemporary interiors often favour modern, distinctive forms. Our shop includes original bowls in a range of designs, from classic, elegant and minimalist to decorative pieces for a modern country-style interior.

While glass bowls stand out for their shine and transparency, wooden bowls bring a natural warmth. Wooden vases have a character all of their own. Made from light oak with a simple, understated look, the Poppy vase by Applicata is available in two sizes and makes a refined feature on the table.

4. How to decorate a wooden bowl

Choose a wooden bowl large enough to arrange decorative balls, cones, dried flowers or even your knitting. The round, shallow Dressed in Wood centrepiece by Alessi, for example, has a diameter of 39 cm and offers plenty of space for creative displays. Its floral relief border already draws the eye, so a few carefully chosen decorations are all you need.

The Lily bowl by BeDesign is an unusual decorative piece. Its contemporary shape is inspired by a flower in bloom. Available in two sizes, the bowls can be stacked inside one another or displayed together.

5. Wooden bowls with Nordic character: selected brands

If you are looking for carefully handcrafted wooden bowls, explore our designer pieces. BeDesign, an innovative Finnish design company founded by two sisters, draws inspiration from nature in its products.

Inspired by the sea, Danish home accessory specialist Skagerak creates products for everyday life that remain relevant over the years. Georg Jensen Living reflects the simple, functional Nordic design tradition in refined combinations of wood and stainless steel.

6. How to care for wooden bowls

Cleaning and care depend on the finish, or whether the wood has been left untreated. As a general rule, wooden bowls should be washed by hand only.

To protect the distinctive grain of untreated wood, it is often enough to wipe it with a damp sponge and let it dry thoroughly. If needed, use a specialist wood cleaner or mild natural soap. For further care, use the oil or wood wax applied to the bowl originally. Acids can damage untreated wood.

7. How much does a high-quality wooden bowl cost?

In the lower price range, you can find versatile wooden bowls such as the distinctive Oh Là Là fruit bowl. The socially committed manufacturer side by side also supports social projects with every purchase.

In the mid-range, explore designs such as the Frame bowl by Skagerak and the Aalto serving bowl by Iittala. The upper price range includes distinctive pieces such as the Kontra fruit and salad bowl by Stelton and Menu's two-piece Wooden Bowl.
